About the event
Montreal’s Grouyan Gombo is one of the great bands that has emerged out of a three-decade long history of Cajun and Zydeco bands in Quebec and Ontario.
Founded by accordionist Harlan Johnson, this trad Cajun-inspired band continues to deliver infectious two-steps and waltzes all over the country. This event features Quebec musicians and longtime Cajun music aficionados, Harlan Johnson on the accordion, Guillaume Jabbour (Jabbour) on the guitar, and Carl Rufh (Durham County Poets) on the bass. They will be joined by well-known Ottawa fiddler Michael Ball (Ball & Chain), often seen on stage with great Cajun outfits. They have studied Cajun/Creole music through with Louisiana masters Boisec Ardoin, Delton Broussard, Sam Broussard, and Steve Riley. The band features a sound that is direct, warm and groove focused, bridging the traditional and contemporary strains of a rich genre. Louisiana Cajun culture has been recognized for its ability to resist, persist and celebrate life despite adversity.
