About the event
The first of three in our 'Music in the Mausoleum' in the historic Gothic Mausoleum at Beechwood - The National Cemetery.
World War II and the Holocaust changed the world in so many ways. As humanity lost its innocence, so did a lot of music. The popular songs that preceeded the war years were special and unique, echoing the sentiments of another generation. Yet the music has endured, and no matter what age you are, it’s likely you have heard them some-where, sometime, and love them.
Roddy Ellias has heard and played so much of this heart-felt music his whole life, and even had the opportunity to perform it with some of the greats who made them popular, including Vera Lynn, Red Norvo, Cleo Laine and more
Selecting the 'pre-war' music for this concert was a challenge according to Roddy, but he has chosen some of his favourite songs from the years preceding the horrific time of World War II and the Holocaust (pieces by Gershwin, Hoagy Camichal, Cole Porter, Duke El-lington and more). Roddy looks forward to playing them for you in the hallowed atmosphere of Beechwood Mausoleum.
The concert is followed by a farm-to-table reception with wine. Vegan and gluten free options will also be available.
There are LIMITED tickets available for the Mausoleum events.
